The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in St. Helena updated its signature restaurant, Wine Spectator Greystone Restaurant (WSGR) in October 2015. The restaurant, which prides itself on being a learning environment for its students, announced the return of its popular lunch service along with a professional staff during dinner in its updated dining room. Open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner, WSGR boasts regionally explored farm-to-table cuisine. With ingredients from the CIA’s farm and gardens, the restaurant evokes a modern farmhouse feel with an intimate 70 seats.
Tre Posti Catering and Events, the new private event venue in St. Helena opened December 21, is suited for elegant weddings, festive celebrations or corporate gatherings. Stunning vineyard and mountain views offer guests three beautiful backdrops for Chef Nash Cognetti’s fusion of authentic Italian and Napa Valley cuisine. The Garden Grove is a lovely outdoor venue, surrounded by valley flora. Courtyard guests gather under a canopy of mulberry trees strung with twinkle lights, with a grand stone fireplace setting the mood for alfresco dining. The Harvest Room offers year-round event space, with soaring ceilings and grand windows.
Ca’ Momi Osteria, the new restaurant opened in October by Ca’ Momi in downtown Napa, now offers lunch daily, L’aperitivo happy hour with reduced-priced wine, beer and cicchetti from 3 to 5 p.m. and late-night hours from 10 p.m. on weekends. In January 2016, late-night entertainment will roll out regularly on Friday and Saturday nights.
Sinegal Estate Winery opened its new tasting room and terrace, wine caves, and VIP lounge on Inglewood Ave in St. Helena on January 4, 2016. The new luxury tasting facility is designed by Signum Architecture of St. Helena, whose previous work includes HALL Winery, CADE and BRAND Napa Valley. The 30-acre property’s dynamic layout creates a quintessential yet idyllic Napa Valley experience. The land includes a 19th-century Victorian home, two-acre lake, olive orchards, hillside vistas, gardens, and a classic poolside cabana. Tours and tastings are available by appointment only.
The Wine Foundry launched a new sleek and modern tasting room in south Napa on October 8, featuring floor-to-ceiling visibility into the winery. The tasting room is open to the public Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and by appointment any day of the week. Tastings are $20-$25 each, refundable with the purchase of two bottles. By request and with appointment, they offer tours of the winery and barrel room, as well as cupcake pairings with wine flights. The winery is currently exhibiting the Abstract Topophilia (Greek for ‘Love of Place’), by transcendental artist Ben Joyce, including a striking, one-of-a-kind, original piece of Napa Valley, commissioned by the winery in 2015.
Silver Trident Winery Tasting Home is now offering a candlelit wine tasting experience from 5 until 7 p.m. each day. The Home now offers this magical and romantic way to enjoy the winery’s wines, with the distinguished Ralph Lauren Home-designed interiors elegantly illuminated by RLH candelabras, hurricanes, sconces and candles. Guests enjoy a leisurely seated tasting either in the living room, dining room or library. Everything from the chandeliers to the carpets, from teak, silver and leather serving trays to crystal wine goblets and more – as well as the wines – is available for purchase.
Cosentino Winery in Yountville now offers “THE Taste” experience in their candle lit barrel room. Their small production wines are paired with farm-to-fork seasonal bites. The Taste is $60 per person.

Enjoy Napa Valley will offer a new “Napa Bicycling and Kayak Tour” starting February 1, 2016. This tour explores the Napa Valley from a unique insiders perspective and begins the day kayaking on the Napa River where guests will discover Napa’s most provocative secrets and learn about Napa’s history. Guests will then visit select boutique wineries by bicycle.
Calistoga welcomed Catch Napa Valley to its main street location in November 2015. Catch is a division of Toss Designs of San Anselmo — a manufacturer of women’s totes/handbags accessories and gifts. Catch features a creative mix of their own products as well as other unique and fun gift items, apparel and home accessories.
Mid-December 2015, Goodman’s, a 130-year staple on St. Helena’s Main Street moved its department store to Calistoga. Its new location at 1333 Lincoln Ave., Suite B will offer many of the same brands sold at its former location.
The Westin Verasa Napa, in partnership with La Toque, now offers a Wine Concierge to all guests, property wide. This new service, launched in November 2015, provides the opportunity for guests to explore La Toque’s acclaimed wine list. The Wine Concierge service is led by Assistant Sommelier Zoe Hankins. Upon request, Hankins will create specialized flights from the restaurant’s robust wine list while taking the guests’ taste preferences into account. Meadowood Napa Valley opened their new 14,000-square-foot, all suite spa on November 2, 2015. The new spa, designed by renowned architect Howard Backen and his team at Backen, Gillam & Kroeger, features eight treatment suites, each offering forest views and a private environment for relaxation. Each spa suite also features a private bathroom, steam shower and daybed. Meadowood’s Director of Spa & Wellness Michael Conte leads the team in giving guests a true sense of retreat and privacy with a Spa menu designed to elevate the entire spa experience and highlight the spa suites.
The Bergson, formerly known as Christopher’s Inn, opened in Calistoga in November 2015. The property’s 21 rooms, suites, lobby, courtyard and grounds have undergone a stunning renovation complete with crisp new décor, branding, website, special packages, rates and amenities. The residential-style Inn offers an ideal location, abundance of guest room categories and accommodations, plus complimentary continental breakfast and WiFi. Guests enjoy rooms with romantic French accents, updated technology and modern comforts, including L’Occitane amenities. Silverado Resort & Spa will once again be the host for the first PGA tournament of the season and has been designated the host through 2020 with new corporate sponsor Safeway. The Safeway Open will be held October 10-16, 2016.
Silverado Resort & Spa now offers “Backhand, Vines and Volley Tennis Camps” for 2016. Participants will experience tennis instruction in a beautiful setting combined with wine education and tastings. The camps include a first evening round robin and dinner, half day tennis instruction on both subsequent days, a wine tasting class taught by Silverado’s sommelier, ‘two-for-one’ winery tasting passes and two nights accommodations in the resort’s recently renovated rooms. Villagio Inn & Spa offers a “Cabernet Season Spa Group Special” where guests may reserve the entire Spa Villagio any evening Monday through Thursday, from 8 to 10 p.m. for $75 per person. Spa treatments may be added for $125 per person. A 10 guest minimum is required. Offered through March 13, 2016.
The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) has expanded its California Campus with the addition of the Copia property in downtown Napa. The CIA at Copia will reestablish the facility as a focal point for wine and food enthusiasts to experience the Napa Valley. The building will be open to the public at no charge, and by mid-Spring expect to see a new restaurant and retail store at the property, as well as wine courses and cooking demonstrations for wine and food lovers.
Bounty Hunter Wine Bar and Smokin’ BBQ is scheduled to open its new space in downtown Napa in early 2018. The new building will be a four-story, 27,500-square-foot food and wine emporium on the corner of First and Main streets in historic downtown Napa. It will feature a lively restaurant, a full-service bar, and curated retail space for wine and spirits, a wine lab designed to provide locals and visitors with a unique educational experience, plus intimate spaces for special events and private dining.
Tannery Bend Beerworks, created by partners Matthew Cromwell, Tyler Rodde, and Lauren Duncan, is coming to downtown Napa in early 2016. Tannery Bend will brew and serve their own beers, born from a unique collaboration between a brewer (Cromwell) and a chef (Rodde), in a comfortable and sociable setting within blocks of downtown Napa, overseen by a master of hospitality (Duncan). A crowd-funding campaign to help launch the brewery ensures that the community is involved from the very start.
Cate & Co. is moving to a larger space in the front of Oxbow Public Marketin Napa, to create Cate & Co. Cafe, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Menus will offer global cuisine featuring fresh, locally sourced and healthy ingredients. Anticipated opening is early Spring 2016.
Charlie Palmer Steak by Chef Charlie Palmer (owner of Harvest Inn and Harvest Table in St. Helena) will open at the new Archer Hotel in downtown Napa in spring 2017. Charlie Palmer has been praised for creating steak restaurants that break the typical mold of the men’s club, creating a haven for both carnivores and wine enthusiasts alike. The chef’s namesake steakhouse restaurants are also in New York City, Washington DC, Las Vegas, and Reno. Additionally, Palmer and team will oversee the culinary direction of the rooftop bar, poolside and in-room dining, as well as private events and executive retreats for the Archer Hotel.
Kenzo Tsujimoto has announced the opening of his new authentic Japanese restaurant in downtown Napa in Spring 2016. Already a seasoned restaurateur with four Kenzo Estate restaurants and tasting rooms in his native Japan, entering the Napa Valley culinary scene has been a long time dream of Tsujimoto. The restaurant and tasting room will be located on the corner of Pearl and X street, in the former location of The Pearl Restaurant and will feature fresh fish delivered from world renowned Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo paired with the wines from Kenzo Estate.
Miminashi, Napa Valley’s first and only “Izakaya-style” (Japanese pub) in downtown Napa, is set to open in March 2016 by chef and owner Curtis Di Fede. The menu will feature dishes such as Karage (fried chicken), binchotan grilled porterhouse with uni shiso butter and will also offer beer, wine and cocktails. The design of the restaurant is a close collaboration with owner Di Fede, Michael McDermott and Juan Carlos Fernandez and will focus around an open binchotan grill.
The Corner Napa, set to open early Spring 2016, will be located in a brand new space in the Riverfront Building in downtown Napa. The restaurant will feature an evolving seasonal menu, sourced from local purveyors and gardens. They will offer a lounge with a relaxed setting, wine bottle service or mixed cocktails. The bar will offer artisanal cocktails made from fresh juices, natural sugars and local produce.
Wineries and Wine Experiences:
JaM Cellars is coming to downtown Napa this spring. Wine flights, as well as by the glass and by the bottle programs will be available for Butter Chardonnay, JaM Cabernet and Toast Sparkling. Plus there will be a number of guest wines and special releases only available at the downtown tasting room. Designer Richard Vonsaal is creating a unique, funky space with reclaimed materials and contemporary twists, including a performance area and private room wired for sound. JaM Cellars is the proud presenting sponsor of BottleRock Napa Valley in 2016 and their new tasting room will be a hub for wine and music.
The Carneros Inn will make various renovations to their family pool, the Apple Orchard and guest entry through March 15, 2016. These enhancements include an elevated deck with a shade trellis and new padded lounges throughout the Family Pool area. The Apple Orchard, the property’s wedding site, will have a planted trellis, a water feature and new floral bushes to define the space. They will also feature a new guest reception building and property entrance. Twenty of the cottages will feature new furniture, soft goods and renovated bathrooms, including additional storage. An additional 20 cottages will be completed by the end of 2016. The Hilltop Pool will feature an expanded deck for additional lounge furniture, along with eight private cabanas with vineyard views.
Silverado Resort & Spa will open their new market, Silverado Market and Bakery, in January 2016. It will offer baked goods from Napa’s renowned Bouchon Bakery, locally crafted wine and beer, cheeses and charcuterie, Three Twins Ice Cream and a host of other locally produced goods.
Auberge Resorts Collection will break ground in 2016 on VieVage Napa Valley, a new destination resort in the Carneros district, which is slated to open in 2018 as the second resort from Auberge’s new VieVage Hotels and Resorts lifestyle brand. The resort will be set on 95 acres of the 712-acre Stanly Ranch and will feature a casual restaurant and bar, bakery, winery and outdoor gathering spaces with fire pits, barbeques, bocce court, and outdoor concerts. The 120 stand-alone cottages will accommodate families and groups, and be set amid private communal vineyards, gardens, and bicycle and walking paths.
Archer Napa is coming to downtown Napa in spring 2017. The Archer, planned as a four-diamond boutique luxury hotel, will be on First Street near Napa’s main shopping district.
Hampton Inn & Suites will open a Napa location in early 2016. The 115-room hotel will feature high ceilings with a rustic modern look, and include a business center, a fitness center with state of the art Precore equipment, and 2,813 square feet of meeting space. The hotel will also feature upgraded room types with balcony suites overlooking the Napa River. All guests will have access to a heated pool and Jacuzzi along with a patio area with outdoor fireplace and fire pits.
Las Alcobas, a Luxury Collection Hotel, will open in St. Helena in the summer of 2016 as a sister property to Las Alcobas in Mexico City. Las Alcobas, designed by Yabu Pushelberg, will feature 68 guest rooms and suites with terraces and outdoor fireplaces, a signature restaurant, a 3,500 square foot spa, an outdoor swimming pool, meeting facilities and all of the brand’s signature amenities and services.
Slated to open in fall 2016, First Street Napa, formerly Napa Center, will create a walkable, gathering place for residents and tourists alike to shop and dine. Led by Zapolski Real Estate and Trademark Property Co., construction is underway on a $100 million, 380,000-square-foot redevelopment that will add approximately 40+ shops and restaurants and a 183-room boutique luxury Archer Hotel (slated to open spring 2017) to surging downtown Napa. Additional enhancements will include new hardscape and landscaping, seating areas, water features, a locally curated public art program and improved connectivity within the downtown area.
