“If music be the food of love, play on,” wrote Shakespeare in Twelfth Night. But what about music, food, love, and great wine, all in a beautiful al fresco setting? Because that’s how we roll in the Napa Valley, with a schedule of outdoor concerts that runs all summer long.
Robert Mondavi Winery Concerts – Now in its 46th year, the Mondavi concert series presents headliner performers on the sprawling grass terrace of its iconic winery. This year guest artists include the Wallflowers (with Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness), Phillip Phillips, Lyle Lovett and his Large Band, Melissa Etheridge, and Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue.
Long Meadow Ranch’s Summer Concert Series – This intimate venue features country, blues, and rock performers on Sunday afternoons from May 30 to October 4, with a special Independence Day evening concert by Cabinet before the fireworks display.
Music in the Vineyards Festival – If you’re more of a classical music buff, check out Music in the Vineyards, celebrating its twenty-first season this summer. This year the festival will celebrate the music of Franz Schubert, with one of his works on all 14 programs. Between July 31 and the end of August, the series will perform at wineries from Napa to Calistoga.
Musical Picnics in Lyman Park – The St. Helena Chamber of Commerce sponsors this delightful series of free family-friendly concerts in its charming downtown park. Pack a picnic dinner, a few (low) lawn chairs, and your kids (there’s often also a food truck and free ice cream), then sit back and pretend you’re in a Norman Rockwell painting, it’s such a mellow, old-fashioned experience. Concerts are held from 6 to 8 pm every other Thursday, June 11 through August 27.
